The Together Party launches campaign for NSW Senate seat

Could Mark Swivel and The Together Party be the Least Crazy Thing in Australian Politics? A Faux Russian Choir, Stand-up Comedy, and a Satirical Book

Mark Swivel may MC Australia’s (only) genuine fake Russian choir – Dustyesky, perform a stage show titled The Alternative Prime Minister, and have written the book Making Australia Slightly Better Than Average Again, but he and his party are deadly serious about the lack of urgency in Australian politics.

The Together Party officially launched its campaign for a seat in the Senate for NSW yesterday at the Brunswick Hotel, Brunswick Heads with Dustyesky providing entertainment. Lawyer, comedian and author Swivel is the front runner, Senate Candidate and founder of The Together Party: a new Australian independent party aiming to secure a NSW seat in the Federal Senate. Future-focused, Together is about rebuilding our “Common Wealth” by restoring government to its traditional role as a force for positive change.

Swivel and his team know there is a gap in our political landscape. The restoration of government has to be in the public interest. From a national ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) to public broadcasting, from pausing privatisation to long-term industry policy, from boosting legal aid to investing in scientific research, from putting more into education than defence to taking genuine action on climate change and energy so we can re-build a Climate Economy – Together is about flipping politics to focus on people instead of politics

Together is a party with its foundation firmly based on human rights above all and insists that there should be no government decision on any level that does not ask two questions:

  1. Is it good for the people?

  2. Is it good for the planet?

Together offers the opportunity to have real voices heard in Australian politics.  Real change powered by real people.  They are not a party running in the lower house – yet.  The Senate is in their sights – that is where the action is, that is where we can make a real difference – Together.

Real Change. Real People. Real Policy. Future Focused. No Squabbling.

Mark Swivel is running his race for a seat in Senate with climate and energy engineer Belinda Kinkead and writer and performer Kate McDowell.

“We believe in good people doing good things in their communities and it is time for these people to have a go in government,” says Swivel.

The concept of The Together Party came from Swivel’s travelling one-man stage show The Alternative Prime Minister and Together’s manifesto began with the writing of Swivel’s book Making Australia Slightly Better Than Average Again. It’s all very funny: but it’s deadly serious.

“Hearing the intensity and widespread concern and discontent over the state of our nation and our government in conversations after the show convinced me I had to do something. How could I not?”

“Obviously Australia is a fantastic place but, in my submission, we are as blessed as we are broken at the moment and there is a lack of urgency in our politics” Swivel said.

In an extraordinarily short amount of time Together’s social media pages and Road Trips have created a widespread frenzy of inspiring, entertaining, thought provoking discussion on some of our nation’s biggest issues.  Their message is travelling fast.  At lightning speed.

Swivel and Together have a real chance at this bid for a place in Senate. With a background of performance, comedy and satire, but a base in real concerns for all Australians, could this party be the least crazy thing that Australian politics has seen for some time?

“We have the cross bench in our crosshairs.” Mark Swivel.

About Dustyesky

Dustyesky has performed at Womadelaide, Woodford and festivals all over the country.  They’ve been on The Project, Weekend Sunrise and all over ABC Radio and Moscow TV Channel 1 News. They are 28 middle aged men from Mullumbimby near Byron Bay.  None of them is Russian nor speaks a word of the language. “We sing songs of suffering and despair to fill you hearts with love and joy!” Dustyesky says, “The songs make you sing them - their spirit touches all of us, whoever we are”.
